Co-creating with Nature

Tessa Stetter

Are you eager to learn how to co-create with nature in your design practice? Do you want to explore the connection of social responsibility and sustainable strategies in the design process? Join me this winter semester for a journey into the world of natural dyes, where we will uncover the beauty of dyeing textiles with a wide color range from nature.
In this hands-on course, we will explore the history of natural dyes, tracing their origins and cultural significance across various societies.

You will discover a wide variety of natural dye materials, experimenting to discover the color ranges achievable from single sources. We will emphasize sustainable practices, discussing how to interweave ecological considerations into our design processes without compromising the integrity of our environment.
Throughout the semester, we will tackle critical questions such as: How can we ensure our design practices reflect social awareness and responsibility? What techniques can we employ to utilize natural resources in a way that respects and nurtures our ecosystems? Together, we will work on pieces that challenge conventional notions of design, exploring how we can create textiles which are rooted in a commitment to sustainability and present these during fashion revolution week.

Join me for a learning experience, where you will gain practical skills in natural dyeing alongside a deeper understanding of the role designers play in fostering social and environmental change. This course will be conducted in English and is open to students from all disciplines who are passionate about exploring innovative and responsible design practices.
